—— ABOUT
Bill, callsign Sketch, didn't start flying until he was 63. He says that when you're that age, you're never going to be healthier, smarter or more capable... so if you want to do something, you'd better do it now.
After retiring Sketch got his pilot's license as well as additional certifications to become a flight instructor. He's an FAA Gold Seal Instructor who has had the privilege of training pilots who became professional aviators as well as Air Force program pilots to obtain their multi-engine airplane certifications. Recently, he co-founded Aviation Explorers Post 1903, helping youngsters examine careers in aviation.
Sketch flies in aerobatic contests of the International Aerobatic Club, winning two first place awards in what he calls the “baby” aerobatic category. He'll also tell you that he won second and third place in one of the contests... He was the only contestant!
Sketch’s latest focus is formation flying – after two years of formation training, joining KC Flight and performing in his first air shows this year.
Thankfully, Jan, his wife of 49 years, supports his unusual aspirations. They live in Columbia, Missouri.
